Project Overview
This Use Case comes from a private home from which the Shelly fan shared his project, very simple yet brilliant and affordable DIY retrofit which turns a traditional washing machine into a smart appliance using Shelly 1PM. The user benefits from receiving automatic notifications via the Shelly app whenever a laundry cycle is completed.
Goal
To create a smart notification system that alerts the user when the washing machine completes a cycle, saving time and unnecessary trips to the laundry area.
Challenges
No built-in smart features: Older or standard washing machines lack cycle-completion alerts.
Manual monitoring: The user had to repeatedly check the machine manually, especially inconvenient when it’s located on a different floor (in this case, the garage).
Avoiding costly replacements: Purchasing a smart washer was unnecessary and costly for a simple problem.
