Use Case: Automatically Reduce Bedroom Brightness at Night

What this setup does

Changes brightness at specific times using Schedules, making lights softer during nighttime.

Best for

Before You Begin

  • Shelly Dimmer Gen3 configured and connected to Wi-Fi

  • Compatible dimmable lighting installed


Step 1: Configure Transition Time

Open:

Light → Settings

Set:

  • Transition Duration = 3 s

This creates smooth brightness changes.


Step 2: Create Evening Schedule

Open:

Schedules

Create:

Trigger

Select time and days of the week, for example: 22:00 every day.

Action

Set:

  • Brightness = 25%


Step 3: Create Morning Schedule

Create another schedule:

Trigger

07:00 every day (for example)

Action

Set:

  • Brightness = 80%


Why Use Schedules?

Schedules are simple and easy to maintain.

Scripts are unnecessary for fixed daily routines.

Additionally, schedules can be used to follow sunrise and sunset.


Common Problems

Brightness changes too abruptly

Light → Settings

Increase:

Transition Duration


LEDs flicker at low brightness

Increase:

Minimum Brightness

until flickering disappears.
