Overview

Project Overview

AltairX Technology is a company that delivers range of complex ICT solutions. For some of them they are using Shelly devices to develop complex and advanced solutions.

For a client managing over 50 buildings nationwide, they developed a SMART HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) solution using Shelly devices, combined with environmental sensors.

Location / Scope

Italy - 50 company managed buildings across the country.

Goal

Intelligently controlling HVAC operations based on CO2, temperature, humidity, and light levels, enhancing
efficiency, saving costs, and reducing manual intervention.

Challenges

  • Find the right balance for energy-saving settings while keeping the comfort

  • Frequent manual temperature adjustments

  • Adapting adequately the comfort in changing climates

Solutions / Implementations

Solution

The developed solution uses the Shelly Plus 1PM Mini combined with environmental sensors for CO2, temperature, humidity, and light levels.

By monitoring CO2 and LUX levels, the solution can determine room occupancy. Every five minutes, it checks these data points, and if the room is occupied, it evaluates the temperature to decide whether to turn the HVAC system on or off. The Shelly Plus 1PM Mini manages the fan coil operation, ensuring efficient climate
control.

Results

This approach has reduced HVAC usage by 40% per week in each room and improved user comfort, addressing complaints about the old, unintuitive thermostats.
