MRI and Ultrasound - Anomaly Detection and Monitoring for Hospitals

AlrAirX.png

Overview

AltairX Technology is a company that delivers range of complex ICT solutions. For some of them they are using Shelly devices to develop complex and advanced solutions.
In the healthcare sector - for the hospitals they are solving various challenges for different types of machinery - MRI and Ultrasound Monitoring.

Scope/Deployments(location)

Hospitals chain in Italy

Challenges

MRI machines are complex devices requiring constant operation to maintain Helium cooling. The clinical engineering experts has identified key challenges in the MRI field:
● High maintenance costs from failures and emergency repairs
● Lack of BI data on MRI usage
● Revenue loss due to HVAC failures and no predictive maintenance
● Avoiding conflicts with the machine vendor or the owner of the premises where it operates. They have their own concerns related to warranty, security and availability.

Similar to MRI, but for Ultrasound Monitoring, gaps were identified in the:

  • Anomaly detection

  • Asset management

  • BI data for ultrasound machines.

Solutions/Implementations

  1. For the MRA the developed solution uses custom sensors to monitor water temperature, magnetic fields and vibrations, paired with the Shelly 3EM Pro series. This provides clients with a digital twin
of their machines, enhancing efficiency and reducing costs. By integrating Shelly 3EM into the electrical boards of MRI machines and HVAC systems, we continuously monitor performance. This data enables us to develop anomaly detection algorithms and optimize usage, boosting efficiency and revenue.

  1. For the Ultrasound Monitoring a solution was developed entirely based on Shelly hardware.
Using the Shelly Plug S, data is gathered on current, power, and voltage from the ultrasound machine. This plug-and-play solution is brand-agnostic, ensuring seamless integration and enhanced monitoring capabilities. By simply plugging the Shelly Plug S between the ultrasound machine and the socket, and analyzing the data with custom algorithm, a digital twin of the ultrasound machine can be created. This allows tracking the machine's on/off status, probe usage time, and detect anomalies for predictive maintenance.

Results

  • Improved and optimized maintenance for heavily used devices leading to lower maintenance costs

  • Optimizing appointment scheduling and efficient use of machine time

  • Increased revenue due to the optimized schedules and machines utilization

Conclusion

Implementing these smart solutions - both engineering and operations teams are enabled to do tracking of machine status operational, standby, or idle time.

Further the management team can prioritize maintenance for heavily used devices.

Operations can optimize doctors' schedules to increase the machine's revenue.
