Advanced Fire Alert in a Warehouse

Overview
This interesting case comes from Bulgaria and the installers from Automation Department at Shelly Europe.
They have implemented an advanced fire alarm notification system that ensures emergency exits are accessible for people in a warehouse with an active fire protection system whenever the fire alarm is triggered.
Scope/Deployments(location)
Warehouses storing flammable materials, locations where people work and may be at risk of fires.
Goal
To add an extra layer of security by implementing a system that ensures alarms, notifications, and emails are promptly sent upon activation of the additional fire protection system powered by Shelly devices. These alerts will notify warehouse workers, nearby personnel, security guards, and management, ensuring swift awareness and response to potential fire emergencies.
Challenges
Receiving real-time information at the moment a problem occurs.
Maintaining a stable internet connection via a LAN cable for the Shelly Pro 2 and a UPS, which powers both the Shelly device and the electric doors. The site had only one available cable for signaling all the electric doors.
Wi-Fi coverage limitations—the warehouse was too large for full coverage.
Solutions/Implementations
Solution
At the specific site, there was only one available cable that could be used for signaling all the electric doors. This cable was used to send a phase to the Shelly switches, which then activate another dry relay to open the doors. The Shelly 1 Gen3 is powered by 220V and controls a 24V circuit.
Using a Wi-Fi network to open the electric doors was unreliable, especially in emergencies. Instead, the single cable was used to transmit the phase signal, ensuring the system operated reliably.
When the fire protection system is activated, Shelly Pro 2 receives a signal. The skylights (dormer windows) are controlled via a dry contact, which sends a com(-) signal. The second dry relay supplies phase to the Shelly 1 Gen3, enabling control of the warehouse’s electric doors.
Key features
Configurable alarm and notification options.
Compact size, as the installation spaces are very tight.
High reliability with a strong warranty.
The Shelly smoke sensor can serve as a backup in case of issues with the site's fire protection system.
Quick response of the Shelly devices upon activation of any smoke/emergency systems ensures immediate notifications.
Scale/Implementation
Warehouses and storage facilities serving businesses.

Results
The implementation of Shelly devices in warehouses and storage facilities has significantly enhanced fire safety and overall security. The results are as follows:
Improved Fire Response Times
Shelly devices, enable the rapid activation of fire protection systems. They ensure the immediate opening of electric doors and skylights during emergencies, preventing delays that could endanger lives.
Smoke sensors like Shelly Smoke provide real-time detection of potential fire hazards, triggering notifications and alarms instantly.Reliable Communication and Control
A wired LAN connection ensures uninterrupted communication with the fire protection system, even in areas where Wi-Fi coverage is inadequate. This eliminates reliance on wireless networks and guarantees system reliability.Dry contacts within Shelly devices are used for signaling and controlling critical systems, ensuring seamless operation under all conditions.
Enhanced Emergency Notifications
Shelly devices are sending alerts via alarms, emails, or other notifications to on-site staff, security personnel, and management upon activation of the fire protection system.Space-Saving and Versatile Design
The compact size of Shelly devices allows them to be installed in tight spaces, making them ideal where space is limited.Backup and Redundancy
The integration of emergency backup systems, such as UPS and Shelly Smoke sensors, ensures the continuous operation of fire safety systems, even in the event of power outages or other failures.Cost-Efficiency and Scalability
The solutions is scalable, making it adaptable to facilities of varying sizes and configurations.
Conclusion
By adding Shelly devices into the fire and safety systems for warehouses and storage facilities, it is achieved higher level of safety and security. The combination of rapid response, reliable communication, and robust design makes these devices excellent for providing additional layer of security for the people working in the warehouse and their management.
